The occultation of Venus, early in the evening of the 1st of December 2008. This clip shows the emergence of Venus from behind the Moon which was a mere 7 degrees from the horizon.
The sky was reasonably clear up until the last few minutes prior to emergence. Typically cloud then began to pile up along the horizon. With just moments to go the cloud melted away and Venus cleared the limb of the Moon with a spectacular burst of light that made the Moon look dim.
